The passage of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) has brought changes to special education law, some major and some minor. In order to help educators, administrators, and others concerned with special education learn about the legal update to avoid complication in the future, Attorney Gregory F. Gillett of Gillett Law will present, along with several others, a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminar. The program is titled “Comply With the Latest Special Education Laws to Avoid Liability.”
- When: Thursday, December 8th, 2016
- Time: 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- Where: Wyndham Visalia, 9000 West Airport Drive, Visalia, CA 93277
- Product ID#: 73918ER
- Credits: 6 CLE or 0.60 IACET
- Cost: May vary depending on registration and membership status
Throughout the day, speakers and presenters will cover a wide range of topics, all with a focus on bettering one’s knowledge on special education legislation. Some topics of interest will include 504 plans, the Individualized Education Program (IEP) and the protections it offers, and legal disciplinary actions regarding students with disabilities. Attorney Gillett will be a co-presenter for two of the day’s seminars: “Unraveling the Requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act” and “Protecting the Rights of Children with Special Needs”.
It is recommended for anyone who works specifically with children with special needs to attend this basic-to-intermediate seminar. Teachers, principals, school psychologists, education law attorneys, and more can all benefit from the course, as they all could be impacted by the legalities of IDEA if they do not know what is and is not acceptable.
